Renewal dates, claim status calls and policy questions hit your phone lines in waves, and you can't staff every peak. Waiting customers lapse or complain. Here are eight scripted AI voice agent use cases for insurance, from renewal reminders to after-hours claim intake.
Eight insurance calls an AI agent can take
Start with the outbound cases (1 to 5 and 8), then add inbound (6 and 7). Much inbound volume exists because customers never get proactive updates. Each script opens with an AI disclosure and offers a person. Replace "Northway Insurance" with your brand, and run every script past your compliance team. Targets are relative: beat a group you did not call.
1. Renewal reminder, 30 days out
Trigger: 30 days to renewal. Handover: cover changes or price disputes go to a licensed agent.
- Agent: "I'm an AI assistant calling for Northway Insurance. I can connect you to a person at any time. Am I speaking with Maria?"
- Agent: "Your car policy renews on 14 March at the same premium, on the card we hold. Shall I keep it as is?"
- Customer: "Yes."
Expected outcome: more renewals confirmed before the due date. Target: a higher confirmation rate and fewer 30-day lapses than the uncalled group.
2. Failed premium payment
Trigger: a payment fails. Handover: hardship or billing disputes go to a person. Keep it a reminder, not collection, because a happy customer pays.
- Agent: "I'm an AI assistant from Northway Insurance, and I can pass you to a person. Is this Tom?"
- Agent: "Your payment did not go through. Your cover is safe until the 20th. Shall I text you a secure link?"
Expected outcome: more payments inside the grace period. Target: fewer cover gaps than before the campaign.
3. Lapse win-back
Trigger: a policy lapsed 7 to 30 days ago. Handover: quotes go to an agent. Win-back is a campaign type in Insight7's beta.
- Agent: "I'm an AI assistant calling for Northway Insurance, and I can transfer you to a person. Is this Priya?"
- Agent: "Your home policy ended on 2 March. Would you like a colleague to call you with a fresh quote?"
Expected outcome: lapsed customers get a quote call without cold-calling each one. Target: callbacks booked and policies reinstated per 100 contacts, tracked week on week.
4. Claim status update (outbound)
Trigger: a claim changes status. Handover: amounts and coverage go to the handler. The agent never decides payment.
- Agent: "I'm an AI assistant for Northway Insurance, and a person can take over any time. Is this James?"
- Agent: "Claim 4471 has moved to assessment. Sara Lopez will contact you within five working days."
- Customer: "Will it be paid in full?"
- Agent: "That is Sara's decision. I'll flag your question to her."
Expected outcome: fewer "where is my claim" calls, because customers hear first. Target: fewer inbound status calls per open claim.
5. Missing claim documents chase
Trigger: a document is missing three days after the request. Handover: customers who cannot supply it go to the handler.
- Agent: "I'm an AI assistant from Northway Insurance, and a person can take over whenever you wish. Am I speaking with Ana?"
- Agent: "Your claim still needs the repair estimate. Shall I text an upload link?"
Expected outcome: complete files sooner. Target: fewer days from request to document, and fewer manual chase calls.
6. Inbound policy question with caller lookup
Trigger: a customer rings the policy line. Handover: anything needing judgement goes to the callback queue.
- Agent: "You've reached Northway Insurance. I'm an AI assistant, and I can arrange a call from a person. I found a policy under this number. Is that Lee?"
- Customer: "When does my policy renew?"
- Agent: "On 9 June. Anything else?"
- Customer: "Can I add my son as a driver?"
- Agent: "A colleague must handle that. I'll queue a callback today."
Expected outcome: simple questions answered at once. Target: a rising share answered without staff, with callbacks made the same day.
7. After-hours first notice of loss
Trigger: a call arrives outside office hours. Handover: injuries go straight to emergency advice. Everything else enters the callback queue. Keep it to intake only.
- Agent: "Northway Insurance claims line. I'm an AI assistant, and a person can call you back. Is anyone hurt?"
- Customer: "No, a pipe burst in my kitchen."
- Agent: "Please give me your policy number and when it happened. A handler will call you by 9 a.m. I can't say whether it's covered."
Expected outcome: every after-hours loss is logged with key fields. Target: all callbacks made by the promised time.
8. Post-claim satisfaction survey
Trigger: a claim closed three days ago. Handover: a low score goes to a claims manager. Customer surveys are a campaign type in Insight7's beta, with answers pulled from the transcript.
- Agent: "I'm an AI assistant calling for Northway Insurance, and I can pass you to a person. Do you have two minutes about your recent claim?"
- Agent: "From one to five, how well did we keep you informed?"
- Customer: "Two. I had to chase."
- Agent: "Sorry about that. May a manager call you?"
Expected outcome: unhappy customers surface within days. Target: more claims covered than a mailed form, and low scores called back within two days.
Run the scripts, then read every transcript
Pick one use case, such as the 30-day renewal reminder, so one script and one measure keep the test readable. In Insight7's beta, a campaign can carry consent marking, calling hours, retry rules and a do-not-call list. Talk to the agent in your browser before any customer's phone rings. Then read transcripts daily. Check for the AI disclosure, the human offer and no talk of coverage.
Insight7 voice campaigns can run this loop, and they are in beta. A manager sets the goal, the audience, the AI caller and the rules. Contacts come in by CSV upload or typed entry. Each finished call becomes a transcript a reviewer can read, with yes/no answers and outcomes pulled from it. Calls where only the AI spoke are not counted as reached. Inbound lines with caller lookup and a callback queue are built behind the beta flag and are being finalised.
Daily reading matters because sampling hides problems. An insurer we spoke with reviewed only a few calls per agent each week. A checklist score can also pass a call that left the customer angry.
Adapt scripts to law, language and handover
Disclosure and consent rules differ by region, so check each script against the places you call:
- EU: Article 50 of the AI Act has applied since 2 August 2026. An AI that talks to people must say it is AI from the first interaction.
- US: the FCC's 2024 ruling means AI-voice calls need TCPA consent.
- Colorado: the Chatbot Safety Act, HB 26-1263, requires public-facing conversational AI to disclose itself from 1 January 2027.
Keep the human offer in the first turn. Gartner found that 87% of 3,566 customers say a company using GenAI for service must offer a route to a human. Make the transfer polite, send sensitive claims and disputed amounts to people, and assign someone to chase any unanswered handover.
Set the language per campaign. In beta, Insight7 voice campaigns let the manager pick the language before the voice, including Yoruba and Igbo.

Questions people also ask
How can AI help insurance companies with renewals and claims calls?
It handles routine, repeatable calls: renewal reminders, failed-payment nudges, status updates and document chases. Staff spend their hours on disputes and coverage judgement. Every call leaves a transcript, so you can review all calls.
What is an AI voice agent for insurance?
It is software that phones policyholders or answers their calls in natural speech. It follows an approved script, can look up the policy from the caller's number, and passes anything needing judgement to a person.
Will AI replace insurance agents?
No. The agent takes scripted, low-judgement calls. Licensed staff keep advice, quotes, coverage decisions and disputes.
Do AI voice agents have to say they are AI on insurance calls?
In the EU, yes, since 2 August 2026. Colorado requires it from 1 January 2027, per the links above. Disclose anyway in every region.
What consent do you need for outbound AI calls to policyholders?
In the US, AI-generated voices fall under the TCPA, so you need prior consent for the call type. Record consent against each contact and keep a do-not-call list.
Which insurance calls should you automate first?
Start with the 30-day renewal reminder. It is outbound, the script is short, and the result is easy to count. Add claim status updates next.
How do you test an insurance voice agent before going live?
Talk to the agent in your browser first, with no phone number needed. Then run a test call to your own phone. After launch, read the first live transcripts daily.
Start with one renewal script
Pick the 30-day renewal reminder this week and leave the other seven for later. Write its script with an AI disclosure and a human option in the first lines. Then talk to the agent in your browser before any customer's phone rings.
